What a GMP certificate really means

Phytrax Lifesciences · October 2026 · 4 min read

When you take a tablet, you trust that it contains exactly what the label says: no more, no less, nothing else. That trust rests on a set of rules most people never hear about.

You cannot test quality into a tablet

It is tempting to think a medicine is safe because someone tested it at the end. But testing a sample only tells you about that sample. The real protection is making every tablet the same way, every time, under control. That is the idea behind GMP, Good Manufacturing Practice.

What GMP asks of a factory

  • Clean, controlled rooms, with filtered air and a layout that keeps products from mixing up.
  • Trained people who follow written procedures, and who write down what they actually did.
  • Machines that are tested before use and checked regularly.
  • A record for every batch, so any tablet can be traced back to its ingredients.
  • An independent quality team, and a qualified pharmacist who must approve each batch before it leaves.

Who checks, and what PIC/S has to do with it

In Thailand, the Thai FDA inspects medicine factories and issues the GMP certificate. Since 2016 the Thai FDA has been a member of PIC/S, an international network of medicine inspectors, and inspects against the PIC/S GMP guide. PIC/S itself does not certify companies. Its value is that member countries’ inspectors work to the same standard and trust each other’s work. That is one reason a Thai GMP certificate carries weight abroad.

Where Phytrax stands

Our factory is still being planned. We are designing it to meet GMP to the PIC/S standard from the start, but we do not hold a certificate today. We can only receive one after the factory is built, qualified and inspected. We think it is important to say that plainly.
